Blog Post #3

The novel The Book of Negroes is a story of a woman who is enslaved during the American Revolution. I know little about the American Revolution and because of that I’m going to look at sources and learn about the American Revolution and what exactly is was about and what took place.
The American revolution was the American colonies fighting for independence from Britain in the 18th century. It was the first time independence was demanded from colonies. America wanted to have their own laws, regulations, constitutional rights, and politics. The revolution started due to Britain's tightening the reins on the american colonies and their was increasing amounts of conflict. Britain prohibited settling in the west and the cost to keep up the empire cause a lot of anger for the americans.
The British army was favoured to win the battle but the americans ended up defeating them with help from France. Some of the consequences of the war include up to 50000 american deaths, the outlaw of slavery in the northern states and a quarter of the slaves from southern states escaping, and the american constitution, laws, and taxation.
